The heavy oak doors slammed shut, severing the sound of Marcus’s screaming. The silence that followed in the atrium was absolute, heavy with the scent of expensive perfume and sudden, icy fear. Elena smoothed the front of her grey jumpsuit, her hands finally steady. She turned to the crowd of tenants—the same people who had watched her scrub floors for months without offering a glance.

"Shall we continue?" Elena asked, her voice echoing off the vaulted ceiling.

Mr. Henderson, the CEO of the tech firm on the 40th floor, cleared his throat nervously. "Ms. Rossi... we didn't know."

"Ignorance isn't a clause in your contract, Mr. Henderson," Elena replied, walking toward the podium Marcus had vacated. She tapped the microphone.
