By morning, the video had ten thousand views. By lunch, it had fifty.

Elena walked into the lobby and the atmosphere had shifted. It wasn't just indifference anymore; it was active derision. Tenants looked up from their phones, whispering and pointing.

"That's the sleeper," a man in a pinstripe suit laughed. He crumpled a sandwich wrapper and tossed it at her feet. "Clean that up, Sleeping Beauty. Try to stay awake this time."

Elena stopped. The wrapper sat by her shoe. Her face burned. She bent down, her fingers trembling. This was reputation destruction on a global scale. She thought of cyberbullying laws, of GoFundMe alternatives, but who would fund a 'lazy janitor'?

Sophia rushed forward, grabbing Elena's arm. "Baby, come to the back. Don't let them see you cry."

"Get back to work, Sophia!" Marcus’s assistant barked from the concierge desk. "Or you'll be on the street with her!"

Sophia flinched, stepping back. Elena was alone. She picked up the trash, tears carving tracks through the grime on her cheeks.

Her phone rang. St. Jude’s Hospital.

She answered, bracing herself. "Ms. Rossi," the administrator’s voice was cold. " The deposit wasn't received. We are initiating the transfer to the state facility tomorrow morning. Unless you can provide $10,000 by 5 PM."

Ten thousand. It might as well have been a million. Medical debt forgiveness was a myth. The reality was a nursing home with a one-star rating and a high mortality rate.

She hung up. The tears stopped. A cold, hard resolve settled in her chest. She had nothing left to lose.
