Chapter 21: The Resurrection

Through the frosted glass of the boardroom, I saw the silhouette of a giant check being passed across the table.
"The Vance family has suffered a great tragedy," Gary was saying, his voice oily and fake. "We hope this settlement brings some closure."
"It does, Gary. It truly does," Barbara cooed. I could hear the smile in her voice. She reached for the check.
I kicked the heavy oak doors open. They slammed against the walls with a thunderous crack.
The room went dead silent.
Barbara dropped her wine glass. Gary turned a shade of pale usually reserved for corpses. The board members froze, mouths agape.
I walked into the room, the heels of my boots clicking rhythmically on the marble floor. I didn't look at the board members. I looked straight at Barbara.
She touched her chest, gasping for air. "L-Linda?"
"Sorry I'm late to my own funeral," I said, my voice ice cold.
I reached the end of the long mahogany table and slammed the file down. The Surprise Witness had arrived.
"You..." Barbara stammered, backing away until she hit the window. "You're dead. I have the certificate!"
"You have a forgery," I spat. "Just like you have a forged policy."
I tossed the diary onto the table. It slid across the polished wood and stopped right in front of the CEO. "And this," I said, pointing to the book, "is the proof that you didn't just steal my money. You killed your own son to get it."
Total Boardroom Drama chaos ensued.
